Envoy: Iran’s Achievements Urged Weak Enemy To Resort To Terrorism

Tehran, Nov 20, IRNA – Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon said recent achievements in regional and international scenes, as well as Syrian Army’s successful progress, urged the existing enemies in Lebanon who are at the peak of weakness and impotence to resort to terrorism. Ghazanfar Roknabadi who was participating in a videoconference with an Iranian TV channel’s news edition said that various Lebanese political groups had condemned the terrorist act in front of the Iranian Embassy. He added, “Incessant victories of the resistance movement, followed by the US back up from its definite decision to invade Syria militarily, comprised the first severe blow over the corpse of the terrorist groups whose members are from different countries.” Roknabadi added that the 2nd severe blow was achieving great political and diplomatic victories by the Islamic Republic of Iran at the international scene and in the region. “The Zionist regime cannot tolerate such blows at all and therefore, it was natural for the one that is totally illogical and deprived of sound reasoning, and is also seeing itself segregated, to resort to terrorism as the only remaining way, in front of our country’s embassy in Lebanon, which is the sign of their weakness and impotence,” he added. The Iranian envoy said that the agents of the Zionist regime and terrorist groups issued a communiqué a few months ago, warning that if the trend of developments would continue in their current way they would target the interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and as we see today, our country’s embassy was targeted against the entire international conventions and despite its political immunity. He said that these agents of the Zionist regime had better know that such wretched moves would not affect the Islamic Republic of Iran’s resolute will the slightest bit and nor the will of the resistance front, but will further strengthen it. The Iranian envoy in Lebanon added, “The Zionist regime had no role in our country’s recent nuclear talks with six world powers, and that is the reason why it is struggling to show that it does have a position.” He said that on Tuesday the whole Lebanese political tendencies and personalities, from the president to the parliamentarians, attended the embassy, or called on the phone, denouncing this terrorist act and declaring a national mourning in Lebanon is being discussed. Two explosions near the Iranian embassy in Beirut have killed at least 23 people, wounded more than 150, including an Iranian diplomat, and caused extensive damage to one of Lebanon's most heavily guarded buildings. The attack shattered more than two months of relative calm in Lebanon and was cast by some officials as another spillover from the devastating war in neighboring Syria. One of the explosions is thought to have targeted a convoy arriving at the embassy, which contained the late Iranian Cultural Attaché Ebrahim Ansari. Among those killed there were embassy guards, who eyewitnesses said had tried to stop a suicide bomber riding a motorbike near the buildings gates, which were destroyed in the attack./end
