Envoy Reaffirms Civilian Nature Of Iran's N-program

Rome, Oct 7, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to Italy Mohammad Ali Hosseini said on Saturday that Iranian nuclear program is fully peaceful aiming to produce nuclear energy. Talking to the Italian reporters, he said that the International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors have on several occasions inspected Iran’s nuclear facilities and verified its peaceful nature for at least 25 times. “We are committed to all our international obligations and consider ourselves morally duty-bound not to seek production, using and stockpiling of mass-destruction weapons,” he said. Referring to a religious edict issued by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, he said that production, stockpiling, and use of nuclear weapons are all religiously prohibited. Asked about Israeli threat to strike Iranian nuclear sites, the ambassador said that Iran is well aware of the Zionist regime's weaknesses so that it does not take the Israeli threats seriously. The regime which sets up barriers around itself is suffering from international isolation, he said. Responding to a question whether the sanctions have marginalized Iran from the international community, Hosseini said that Iran Iran has currently undertaken leadership of 120-nation Non-Aligned Movement, a major world body after the United Nations. Summit of NAM Leaders in Tehran called for restructuring the UN Security Council. They said that the United Nations Security Council is the defunct relic of Wrodl War II lacking legitimacy to govern the international community./end
