Envoy stresses Iran's support for Afghanistan stability

New York, Nov 22, IRNA - Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations Hossein Dehqani stressed Iran's support for Afghanistan stability and called for reconstruction of the war-torn country. Making the remarks in the UN General Assembly, he noted that Iran supported the democratic process in Afghanistan and its sovereignty. He called on all Afghan political parties to cooperate with Afghanistan's government to foster national unity. Iran hosts more than 3 million Afghan refugees and they have access to Iran's public services including education and insurance, Dehqani added. He said that Tehran is committed to enhance bilateral ties with Kabul in all fields including border security, anti-drugs operations and agriculture. The official warned about growing rate of poppy cultivation in Afghanistan and asked the international community to help reconstruction procedure of the country's infrastructure./end
