Envoy Urges US To Abandon Policy Of Sanctions Against Countries

Tehran, Oct 29, IRNA – Iran's Ambassador to the United Nations in New York urged US to abandon its failed policy of imposing sanction against countries. He made the remarks in the UN General Assembly meeting on Tuesday on behalf of 120 member countries of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). The meeting discussed maintaining peace and international security as well as necessity of ending financial and trade sanctions imposed against Cuba. Hossein Dehqani referred to the support of UN General Assembly for lifting sanctions against Cuba and said in last year sessin of UN General Assembly, 188 members out of 193 countries voted for lifting the sanctions. Dehqani stressed that NAM has always strongly opposed unilateral and oppressive moves with extraterritorial effects and believes that imposed sanctions have distressing effects on Cuban life. He added that such unilateral moves of the US are violation of Cuban citizens rights and interests. The ambassador continued that NAM again asks the USA to respect opinion of majority of the international community and end all sanctions against Cuba and change its failed policy in this regard./end
