EU foreign ministers convene to debate on EU enlargement

BRUSSELS (A.A) - December 5, 2011 - EU foreign ministers convened in Brussels on Monday to debate EU enlargement. EU foreign ministers are expected to make decisions on Turkey and other candidate countries. Officials from the EU said that "renewed positive agenda" for Turkey-EU relations offered by EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule was expected to be supported by EU foreign ministers. The decisions would underline the importance of Turkey in terms of competitive power in EU, regional stability and encouragement of reforms in Arab Spring, officials said. EU officials are also expected to ask Turkey to take steps regarding opening of ports and normalization of its relations with Greek Cypriot administration.
