EU Minister Bagis receives President of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development

ANKARA (A.A) - November 15, 2011 - Turkish Minister for European Union (EU) Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis received Tuesday the President of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Thomas Mirov, in Ankara. Speaking while receiving Mirov, Egemen Bagis said that Turkey constantly developed its relations with EU institutions on its way to the Union. More than 50 percent of all Turkish foreign trade takes place with EU countries. 92 percent of all global capital that came into Turkey in the first half of 2011 came from the EU countries, Bagis said. Turkey closely watches the economic process of Europe. We will exchange views in this regard, Bagis said. Mirov, in his part, said that he was very pleased to be in Turkey again. As the EBRD, we invest around 1 billion euros in various Turkish sectors annually. Most of our investments take place in small and medium scale enterprises, energy and infrastructure projects, Mirov stressed. Bagis's meeting with Mirov later continued behind closed doors.
