Expansion Of Iran-Egypt Ties Useful For Muslim World: MP

Tehran, Feb 6, IRNA – a senior Iranian lawmaker Bagher Hosseini said on Tuesday that expansion of Iran-Egypt relations would be useful for the Muslim World and increasing of its influence in international community. Hosseini who is a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iran’s Majlis said Iran and Egypt are two regional powers whose relations would augment influence of Islam in the region. He added that Hosni Mubarak’s government was an obstacle to the relations of the two countries, saying the occurrence of revolution in Egypt changed the situation. The lawmaker said that the Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi is seeking to meet demands of revolutionary people of the country, but faces foreign pressure by the US and domestic pressure by remainders of the former regime. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Cairo earlier in the day at the invitation of his Egyptian counterpart to attend the 12th OIC Summit. The 12th OIC Summit is to be held on February 6-7 in Egypt with participation of heads of state from 57 Islamic countries to discuss the most important issues of the Muslim World, particularly ways to put an end to Syrian, Malian and the Palestinian crises. Ahmadinejad is expected to meet a number of his counterparts on the sidelines of the Summit./end
