Favorable opportunity for a deal: Iran Daily

Tehran, Nov 24, IRNA - 'Iran Daily' on Monday wrote that the US should stop making excessive demands and take a rational stand on the talks that are underway in Vienna between Iran-P5+1 on the country's nuclear energy program. Elaborating on the issue, the English-language daily underscored that the US Congress has no excuse to block a deal and President Obama has enough power to order the lifting of congressional sanctions. If the P5+1 is determined, it’s a favorable opportunity to strike a deal, added the paper in its Opinion column. Reaching a deal with Iran on its nuclear energy program is a tough test for US President Barack Obama. It seems that the division between the US government and lawmakers is nothing but propaganda to intimidate Iran because Congress’ possible intervention in a nuclear deal will not cause a serious problem, it said. The Islamic Republic has taken many confidence-building measures, curbing parts of its nuclear work and allowing more inspections. Reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that Iran has fulfilled all its commitments under the Geneva deal signed last year, highlighted the paper. In this light, should the nuclear talks collapse, the US will be responsible, because Iran has already done its part, added the paper. President Obama has penned a letter to Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on the nuclear issue which shows Washington’s eagerness to settle the dispute. All other major powers are also keen to see the case closed so that they can resume trade freely with Iran, concluded the daily./end
