First Vice President: Iran attaches special emphasis to its relations with Azerbaijan

Tehran, June 19 (AzerTAc). First Vice President of Iran Eshaq Jahangiri has said his country placed particular stress on its relations with Azerbaijan. “In its foreign policy, official Tehran attaches special emphasis to the relations with its neighbors, particularly Azerbaijan,” he told Azerbaijani minister of communications and high technologies Ali Abbasov, who is on a visit to Iran. “Our two countries share cultural, historical and religious values, and this paves the way for further strengthening of our brotherly relations.” Mr. Jahangiri stressed the importance of increasing the bilateral trade between Azerbaijan and Iran. The Iranian First Vice President touched upon the Azerbaijani President`s recent visit to Tehran, saying “it saw the two countries sign very important documents”. “The talks between the Azerbaijani and Iranian presidents opened ample opportunities for the deepening of the relations.” “The visit opened a new page in the relations between Tehran and Baku,” said Mr. Jahangiri. Mr. Abbasov thanked Iran for its position on Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and sovereignty. On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the minister expressed regret over the fact that the efforts of the mediators “have not yet produced any results”. Mr. Abbasov praised the results of the meetings he held during his visit. The minister said Baku would soon host a meeting of the Azerbaijan-Iran intergovernmental commission on economic, trade and humanitarian cooperation.
