FM confers with counterparts during CICA

BEIJING, April 30 (TNA) -- Thailand’s Foreign Affairs Minister Don Pramudwinai has discussed with several of his foreign counterparts and senior officials aimed at strengthening cooperation during the 5th meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in the Chinese capital of Beijing. The CICA two-day meeting ended Thursday. Mr Don held talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in which both sides agreed that relations of the two countries are warm while they pledged to cooperate in other fields for the benefit of the two nations. Thanking Thailand for its support of cooperation under the CICA framework, Mr Wang told Mr Don that Beijing would support Thailand in its bid to become chairman of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue. Mr Don also held talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin on bilateral cooperation, especially on trade and investment. Both men conferred on the 2nd Political Consultation which Ukraine is the host later this year. He also met Belarus’ Foreign Minister V Makei and deputy foreign minister of Tajikistan and held talks on ways to widen trade and investment. The two countries will celebrate 25 years of diplomatic relations with Thailand in 2017. Tajikistan’s deputy foreign minister had proposed to Mr Don for the two countries to consider setting up a mechanism for close cooperation and strengthening economic ties. (TNA)
