FM Discusses Iraq With Counterparts: UN Chief

Tehran, June 14, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in separate telephone conversations with his counterparts and international personalities, especially UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, discussed the latest developments in Iraq. In his phone conversation with the UN secretary general, Zarif warned against the trans-regional nature of Takfiri terrorism and emphasized on the UNˈs responsibility in serious and effective support for the Iraqi governments and nation in confronting terrorism. In his separate telephone conversations with secretary general of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation and foreign ministers of Turkey, Qatar and the UAE, the Iranian foreign minister reiterated the need for attaining Muslim unity, joint and coordinated actions in fight against terrorism and supporting the Iraqi nation and government against the growing trend of terrorist acts. During these phone conversations, the foreign dignitaries and officials while thanking Zarif for phoning them expressed their viewpoints about the current situation in Iraq and the trend of helping the Arab country in a bid to transit from the current sensitive situation./end
