FM : Regional Countries Should Focus On Preventing War, Extremism

Baghdad, Sept 9, IRNA – Islamic Republic of Iran’s foreign minister elaborating on the brewing threats in the region, particularly in Syria, said here Sunday night that entire regional courtiers’ efforts should be focused on prevention of wars and extremism. Mohammad Javad Zarif made the comment in a meeting with the Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi, his deputies, and a number of Iraqi MPs, adding, “The two countries’ parliaments play significant roles in improvement of bilateral ties.” He conveyed the Iranian Islamic Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani’s warmest regards to his Iraqi counterpart, adding, “The Iraqi Parliament plays a significant role in this regard.” The Iranian foreign minister condemned any type of use of chemical weapons, emphasizing, “Syria’s problems must be resolved through political talks and refraining from resorting to any type of military move.” In the meeting the Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi, too, pointed to the great significance of the Islamic Republic of Iran as the most powerful and most influential country in the region, asking for further broadening of bilateral cooperation. He said that he would visit Iran in near future, elaborated on the Iraqi government’s viewpoints for resolving the Syrian crisis through dialogue and political talks, and the need for gathering the entire involved parties around a table for political talks aimed at materializing the will of the Syrian nation, while deporting the foreign forces from that country./end
