FM Spokesman: Bushehr Power Plant To Be Commissioned In A Few Weeks

Tehran, Aug 20, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Araqchi said the Bushehr nuclear power plant will be ready to be fully commissioned in a few weeks time. He made the remarks during his weekly press briefing here Tuesday. He explained that the power plant has been generating electricity for a long time during its testing phase and is now undergoing the final tests to be officially handed over to Iran in the next few weeks. Noting that the Bushehr power plant has been a joint issue pursued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry and Iran Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO), he said it has been a major issue of the country’s foreign policy in the past two decades. Referring to a recent phone conversation between Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, he said the date of the mutual talks is not yet fixed because the composition of the new Iranian negotiation team is yet to be announced by President Hassan Rohani./end
