FM Spokesman Urges 5+1 To Adopt Realistic Approach Towards Iran

Tehran, Oct 30, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Tuesday that the G5+1 only needed to be realistic towards Iran and recognize its rights to pursue peaceful nuclear activities including the fuel cycle. Such a realistic attitude would help quickly settle Iran's nuclear issue, he said speaking to domestic and foreign reporters at his weekly press conference. The spokesman added that since the reports on the next round of talks between Iran and the G5+1 (five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) were not announced through official channels, would not be acceptable to Tehran. Commenting on recent baseless reports on talks between Iranian and US officials, Mehmanparast said those reports are mostly used inside the US as Americans are on the threshold of presidential elections. “Iranian authorities have rejected holding any talks with their US counterparts,” he said, stressing, “If Americans are still insisting on their claims on adopting a new approach towards Iran, they have to prove it in practice.” Commenting on the presence of foreign troops in the Middle East, Mehmanparast recommended all western countries to pull out their troops from the region so that the present regional crises be settled and peace be restored to the region.” On the next US presidential elections, he said regardless of who would win the election, “He is expected to respect Tehran’s rights, stop hostility towards the Iranian nation, regret its previous anti-Iran approach and try to clear Iranians’ minds from their past bitter experiences with US.” If Washington decided to continue its previous hostile policies towards Iran, the Iranian nation would defend its legitimate rights and independence more strongly than before, Mehamnparast concluded./end
