FM: UN Should Recognize Main Culprit Behind Use Of Chemical Weapons In Syria

Tehran, April 30, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi here Tuesday urged the United Nation to identify the main culprit behind the use of chemical weapons in Syria. Salehi made the remarks while talking to reporters on the sideline of a gathering to introduce UNDP Human Development Report 2013 in Tehran. Before the situation gets out of control in Syria, he added, the UN should settle the crisis through apolitical channels and identify the main culprit behind the use of chemical weapons in the country. Iran has consistently opposed the use of weapons of mass destruction as well as chemical weapons by any country and has sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in this respect, he said. We oppose any type of production, stockpiling and use of weapons of mass destruction, and this stance is the clear message and consistent policy of Iran, Salehi said./end
