FM Urges Syrian Groups To Pursue Iran’s Initiative

Tehran, Nov 19, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi here on Monday urged different Syrian groups to pursue Iran’s initiative to resolve Syrian crisis through conducting dialogues among different political groups inside and outside the country. Speaking to IRNA on the sidelines of the second day of the meeting on the Syrian National Dialogue being held upon Tehran’s initiative, Salehi called on different groups inside Syria to continue dialogue. The foreign minister said in the first day of the meeting, the participating groups decided to form a committee to follow up dialogue among Syrian groups. He added that members of the committee, who were Syrian popular elites, were appointed on Sunday and would be announced during today’s meeting. The second day of the Syrian National Dialogue started this morning behind closed doors. The gathering was initially planned for one day; however, it continued for the second day as it was enthusiastically welcomed by its participants. Different Syrian political parties such as Social Democratic Party, Syrian Democratic Party, Secular Democratic Party, Independent Youth Society, Kurds National Party, National Salvation Front, and the Society for Victory of National Unity are attending the Tehran meeting which carries the motto "No to Violence, Yes to Democracy." More than 200 international and political personalities are attending the event to discuss ways to effectively resolve the Syrian crisis./end
