FM visits Altanbulag-Kyakhta borderport

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ An official delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs L.Purevsuren got acquainted with the activities of the Altanbulag-Kyakhta borderpoint. According to the statistics, since the exemption of visa for travels between Mongolia and Russia, number of passengers crossing the border checkpoint went up by 88.5 percent and of vehicles went up by 54 percent in the first month of this year. Travelers started to commit illegal carriage of narcotics, drugs and of weapons and counterfeiting, usually after midnight, says a customs officer. The staff of the border port also said that they were not ready for such an increased occupancy. The Foreign Minister L.Purevsuren promised to present the issue to the State Great Khural and to find an immediate resolution to this problem.
