FM Warns US Not To Interfere In Iranˈs Internal Affairs

Tehran, May 26, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi warned Washington against violation of its international commitments and asked US to avoid interfering in internal affairs of other countries, including Iran. According to the report of Foreign Ministry Media Department, on recent interfering statements of the US officials about Iranˈs presidential elections, Salehi said some of their statements are amazing, adding that US support for democracy is only a gesture and a deceitful claim. Iranˈs senior diplomat said, ˈWe believe that learning from history and commitment to principles of international law, such as non-interference in other countriesˈ affairs, is beneficial for the USA.ˈ He went on to say that beyond general international commitments, the US government has been clearly committed in Algeria communiqué not to interfere in Iranˈs internal affairs. Salehi said that information and knowledge of the US officials on Iranˈs election system is weak and superficial, adding that Americans should accept that every country has its own specific election system upon its values and laws. Guardian Council in Iran has its legal duties and position, which has been defined by the Constitutional Law, he stressed. He recommended the US officials enhance their knowledge by authentic resources and knowledgeable advisers and be cautious on consequences of their unjustified statements./end
