Food minister: Turkey gives most support to agriculture among OECD countries

ANKARA (A.A) - November 15, 2011 - Turkish Food, Agriculture & Animal Breeding Minister Mehdi Eker has said that Turkey gave the most support to agriculture among Organization for Economic Cooperation & Development (OECD) countries. Speaking at a committee meeting at Parliament on Monday, Eker said that agriculture had a very low contribution to employment and national income in developed and developing countries, adding that however Justice & Development (AK) Party increased the support to agriculture significantly. He noted that Turkey was the OECD country which extended the highest support to agriculture. Replying a question, Eker said that Turkey exported agricultural productions worth of 141 million USD to Israel in 2010, adding that Turkey imported only 6-7 percent of seeds from Israel.
