Foreign Ministers of Russia, China and India noted relevance of mutual cooperation - Lavrov

WUZHEN, February 27. /TASS/. The foreign ministers of Russia, India and China stressed the relevance of trilateral interaction and stated that on a number of pressing problems of global politics the approaches of the countries are close or coincide, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday at a joint press conference following talks with colleagues from India and China. "On all the most important and fundamental topics our approaches coincide or are very, very close. We adhere to similar assessments of the processes that are unfolding in the world and which are associated with the ongoing formation of a more democratic, polycentric world order based on mutual consideration of interests of a broad international partnership, respect for cultural and civilizational features of the modern world," Lavrov said. The Russian Minister drew attention to the fact that at the talks the parties spoke in favor of strict adherence by everybody to the fundamental principles of the UN Charter. Including respect for the sovereign equality of states, the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, refusal to use force or the threat of force. "We substantively discussed the problems of international information security, noting particular importance of the two resolutions adopted during the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly on the need to develop rules for responsible behavior in the context of cyber security and countering the use of information and communication technologies for criminal purposes. Both resolution, with Russia as one of the initiators, will be worked on within the framework of the UN," the Minister added. Lavrov added that the ministers are concerned about the outbreak of trade wars and increased protectionism in world trade. "We expressed concern over the continuing dangerous imbalance of the multilateral trading system, strengthening of protectionist measures, outbreak of trade wars, expansion of illegitimate unilateral economic sanctions practice in circumvention of the UN Security Council," he said. "We believe that all states should have equal opportunities and equally participate in global economic activity," Lavrov added. Read more
