Foreign Ministry Strongly Condemns Terrorist Act Against Iranian Pilgrims In Iraq

Tehran, June 8, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Araqchi strongly condemned the recent terrorist act against Iranian pilgrims in Iraq. He described the terrorist attack as a blind and criminal move which stands in contradiction with the Islamic and human codes of conduct. Noting that the terrorist operation against the Iranian pilgrims in Iraq on Friday coincided with the day celebrating formal start of the universal mission (Mabˈath) of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), he believed that proved the culprits behind the move are either direct instruments in the hands of enemies of Islam or are tools manipulated by them to carry out their plots. Referring to the legal and international responsibilities of those who back terrorists in the region, Araqchi said Iran maintained right to sue the supporters of terrorists. He said the Islamic Republic of Iran will certainly follow up the case with Iraqi officials through diplomatic channels in near future. Some 16 Iranian pilgrims were killed and 44 others injured in Iraqˈs Harouniya region, 60 kilometers from Baghdad, on Friday after suicide bombers hit two buses carrying Iranian pilgrims./end
