Former German FM Underlines Iran’s Presence In Geneva Meeting On Syria

Tehran, Nov 25, IRNA – Former German foreign minister, Joschka Fischer, has said in view of prologation of Syrian crisis Iran’s presence in the Geneva 2 conference on Syria is of great significance. In a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, he hoped that Geneva II meeting will produce desirable results and offer a diplomatic solution to the protracted crisis in the Arab state. Referring to recent unrest in the Middle East, Fischer said instability in the region will be detrimental to all regional states and stressed the need for formation of a collective security structure in the region. He evaluated Iran’s role in the field as fundamental and significant. Fischer also condemned terrorist act near Iran’s Embassy in Beirut. Amir-Abdollahian, for his part, pointed to the spread of extremism in the Middle East and its negative repercussions, including the terror act in the vicinity of Iran’s Embassy in Lebanon, and said that foreign interventions will further complicate the situation in the region. Rejecting military solution to Syrian crisis, he also underlined Iran’s insistence on looking for a diplomatic solution, holding talks and stopping the flow weapons and terrorists to the Arab country. Amir-Abdollahian reiterated that rationality, realism and abidance of all sides by their international commitments and realities will help the country get out of the current crisis./end
