Former PM discusses prospects of presidential elections in Lebanon with Lavrov

MOSCOW, May 13. /TASS/. Lebanon’s former Prime Minister Saad Hariri has discussed the prospects of presidential elections in the country and the situation in Syria with Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday. "First of all, we discussed the issue of presidential elections in Lebanon, the threat coming from the conflict in Syria," Hariri told TASS. "We are united on fighting terrorism. We intend to look for the resolution of the Syrian crisis in accordance with the interests of Lebanon and the whole region," he added. "I would also like to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the issue of presidential election in Lebanon," Hariri noted. Lebanon’s top state position remains unoccupied since Michel Suleiman’s term ended on May 25, 2014. The presidential elections have already been postponed 23 times as several political forces continue thwarting a quorum to elect a leader with their consistent boycott of parliamentary sessions.
