Former US Diplomat: Letter To Obama, Reaction To Extremist Members Of Congress

New York, July 22, IRNA – Former US diplomat Dennis Jett said the letter by 131 members of the US Congress to President Barack Obama urging him to talk to Iran was indeed a reaction to the extremist and war-mongering members of the Congress. In an exclusive interview with IRNA, he noted that many politicians both in the Congress and the White House believe there is a new chance rising to settle the existing challenges with Tehran which President Obama has to take. Jett criticized stands of a number of extremist Congress members who were seeking even further pressures and sanctions against Iran and called on other members of the Congress to challenge such views. He further stressed the importance of scientific and cultural cooperation between Tehran and Washington and said ground should be prepared for elites, researchers and university figures from both countries to exchange visits. The American diplomat underlined the need for dialogue and exchange of visits and views and believed this would pave the way for political interaction. He further underlined the need for recognizing the right of the Iranian nation to pursue nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and said such a move would help settle the existing disputes between the two countries./end
