French Ex-PM: G5+1 To Follow Unique Stance In Baghdad

Tehran, May 14, IRNA -- Former French prime minister Michel Rocard says the G5+1 would in the Baghdad meeting follow a unique stance. “The G5+1 seeks agreement; Americans are less the men of dialogue but the policy is no longer effective because dollar is facing enormous threats,” Rocard told Channel II of the Islamic Republic of Iran's Broadcasting on Sunday night. He said the French concerned over the future because they are under economic crisis. He then turned to former French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, saying his policy encouraged unemployment as the government had not necessary capability and efficiency. François Hollande, he said, would form a cabinet to have the efficiency to tackle unemployment problem. “In foreign policy, however, we would not see any special change; France is a peace loving state, trying to consolidate bases of the European Union.” He then pointed to France’s alignment with Afghanistan, saying, “That’s for 70 years that we are united with the US; so it was logical to be with them in Afghan issue; Hollande, has however announced that France would in the year 2012 get its forces out of Afghanistan.” He focused on the goal of attacking Afghanistan, saying, of course Afghan occupation was to lead to formation of a democracy but failed to gain the intended result.” He said the French people have voted to their government to prevent lavishly spending of their money. “We seek peace in the entire region.” He then said his country has not been following the US, rather at the time of military build-up in Iraq, France seriously opposed it. “Situation has changed and we are witnessing a new world; countries no longer fight to prove themselves and no country can dominate others through force.” On his Iran visit, he said he is visiting Iran on an invitation by Iranian government and he carried no special message. As for Baghdad session, he said the Conference provides a very good opportunity for all countries to know what they are seeking. “The decree of Iranian revolution leader that production and use of Weapons of Mass Destruction is religiously forbidden is very important and can build up confidence.” He said, “We should remain faithful to the global community so that issues would not get complicated and an agreement is reached in the Baghdad talks.”/end
