French National Front leader urges recognition of French crimes in Algeria

Azerbaijan, Baku, March 7 / Trend A.Taghiyeva / The leader of the French nationalist party, the National Front Marine Le Pen has urged the authorities to recognise the atrocities committed by the French during the Algerian war during 1954-1962 and then think about the recognition of the "Armenian genocide", CNN Turk TV channel reported. "The French must also consider their bad attitude to the Algerians who fought on their side," Le Pen said. The Constitutional Court of France earlier repealed a law criminalising denial of the so-called "Armenian genocide". The Council justified it by the fact that the law contradicts Article 33 of the Constitution of France and freedom of speech. On Jan 23, after an eight-hour debate, the Senate adopted the bill criminalising denial of the so-called "Armenian genocide". Some 127 senators voted in favour, while 86 voted against. The bill demands a year's imprisonment and a fine of 45,000 euro for denying the so-called genocide. Do you have any feedback? Contact our journalist at agency@trend.az
