G20 remains most effective economic cooperation framework, says Russian sherpa

MOSCOW, July 2. /TASS/. The G20 continues to be the most effective and relevant global economic cooperation framework, Russia’s G20 Sherpa Svetlana Lukash told reporters at a press briefing on Tuesday. "The G20 remains the most relevant and effective framework for economic and financial cooperation between countries," she said. "It stays ahead of the global agenda, that is, tries to resolve not only the current economic crises but also offer solutions on the issues, which require international efforts. This is primarily related to the challenges of the digital economy." According to Lukash, the G20 priorities are fully consonant with Russia’s national agenda. This also applies to shaping the new digital economy agenda. "Of the most significant achievements of the Osaka summit, I would single out the countries’ agreement to continue the reform of the key global governance institutions, first and foremost, in international trade, restore the functions and operation capabilities of the key World Trade Organization (WTO) institutions, work on new agendas, in particular, in the digital economy and e-commerce areas," the sherpa stressed. She also drew attention to a range of issues proposed at the G20 summit, covering changes in the labor market due to robotics, international information security and taxation in the digital sphere.
