Georgian authorities to be urged to invite long-term international observation missions

Georgia, Tbilisi, March 9 / Trend N. Kirtskhalia / Organizations representing the campaign "It Concerns You" on March 9 will appeal to the Georgian Presidential Administration, Parliament and Foreign Ministry. In their appeal media and non-governmental organizations urged the government to invite long-term mission of the OSCE, Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the democratic institutions to monitor the pre-election situation within the shortest possible time. "The mission should ensure a qualified and impartial monitoring of election atmosphere not only in two-month pre-election period of time, but for the entire election year," the campaign " It Concerns You" said in its statement. Two groups consisting of representatives of NGOs and media organizations will send appeal to the Presidential Administration and Foreign Ministry at 15:00, after which will visit the parliament and hand over the document to the office. At the same time the campaign participant countries will send the appeal to the Secretary General of OSCE, the organization's democratic institutions, Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), "so that they sent long-term observation mission to Georgia, which will help in holding free and fair elections in the country". It should be noted that in his annual address at the parliament President Mikheil Saakashvili said that he wants to see observation missions of as many international organizations as possible.
