German FM Urges Direct Iran-S Arabia Talks On Iraqi Crisis

Berlin, June 25, IRNA - German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier called for direct talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia aimed at de-escalating the Iraqi conflict. Talking to Tuesdayˈs edition of the daily Bild newspaper, Steinmeier said the conflict can hardly be resolved without some sort of understanding between Tehran and Riyadh. Talks between both countries can help calm down the situation in Iraq, he added. Germany has repeatedly stressed that Saudi Arabia and Iran play a key role in restoring peace and stability in violence-stricken Iraq. Berlin has also expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in that country./end
