Germans Stage Silent Vigils For Victims Of Neo-Nazi Killer Squad

Berlin, Nov 27, IRNA -- Germany on Saturday became the scene of nationwide silent vigils, remembering the victims of an unprecedented neo-Nazi terror wave which has deeply shocked the nation. During the silent protests in at least 11 German cities, among them Berlin, Bielefeld, Cologne, Essen, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hannover, Kiel, Munich and Nuremberg, people laid down white and red roses in a coffin-like box containing the names of 10 neo-Nazi victims. The white roses were to symbolize the resistance movement to the Nazi regime, and the red roses were placed to also remember the victims of the July 22 far-right terror attacks in Norway. Labeling themselves as 'the silent mob, a movement of people, for people,' organizers said the silent vigils were aimed at sending a message to the 'silent majority in Germany' that they had to do more to oppose racism and fascism. 'Our silence is a memorial to the victims of right-wing terrorism,' according to organizers. 'We are silent, because we are all Enver Simsek, Abdurrahim Özügru, Süleyman Tasköprü, Habil Kilic, Yunus Turgut, Ismail Yasgar, Theodoros Boulgarides, Halit Yozgat, Mehmet Kubasik, and Michéle Kiesewetter. And if we do not break the silence, we could be next,' the organizers added. They were referring to the names of nine Turks, one Greek and a policewoman, who were murdered by a neo-Nazi death squad between 2000-2007. The revelations of the execution-style neo-Nazi killings have also tarnished Germany's abroad./end
