Goodwill Needed To Resolve Iran-P5+1 Dispute

Tehran, Oct 15, IRNA - 'Iran Daily' on Wednesday wrote that the only condition for settling the decade-long dispute between Iran-P5+1 is goodwill and a general understanding of the whole issue. Over the past year, Iran-P5+1 have shown determination for reaching a final and comprehensive agreement over the country’s nuclear energy program. Both sides have taken the route which has no way back and they must clinch the deal, added the English-language paper in its Opinion column. Since the new negotiating team led by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif started work over more than a year ago, both Iran and the P5+1 demonstrated goodwill to finalize an accord and the talks have not been for the sake of talks and a mere show. That’s why President Hassan Rouhani has said the nuclear issue will definitely be resolved and the talks will never go back to that of last year, the paper added. However, major disagreements need to be resolved and that will take time. Although senior Iranian negotiator Abbas Araqchi has said the November 24 deadline might be extended, there are strong indications that a deal could be possible within the established timeframe. Neither Iran nor the P5+1 wants to easily miss such a great opportunity to close the nuclear case once for ever. The sizzling issues at the negotiating table are the number of centrifuges, the level of uranium enrichment, and the timing of lifting the sanctions and both sides are doing their utmost to win maximum concessions. But since Iran and P5+1 are determined to make a final deal, they need to modify their views when the talks hit a gridlock. For instance, Iran had called for lifting all sanctions soon after the final agreement. But the other side may have justifications and cannot immediately remove all, the paper said. There are hopes that major sanctions including those targeting oil export and banking system will be scrapped. If these two sanctions are lifted, then the regime of sanctions will come down and most of the problems plaguing Iran’s economy will be resolved, believes the daily. Iran and the West, the United States in particular, need to arrive at better understanding in order to settle all disagreements and there are indications a general understanding is being shaped, concluded the daily./end
