Govt to extend emergency decree in deep South

BANGKOK, May 25 (TNA) – The emergency situation management committee on quelling the southern insurgency resolved to extend the use of emergency decree in three southern border provinces for another three months. The decision was made during the meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon. The extended period, which will be imposed in Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat starts from June 20 to September 16, 2018. It is the 52nd extension. However, the announcement removes some districts from the lists of the areas under the emergency decree. Those districts are Su-ngai Kolok in Narathiwat, Betong in Yala and Mae Lan in Pattani. The Internal Security Operations Command will propose the committee's decision to the cabinet for approval. (TNA)
