Hamid Nouri waiting for Swedish court of appeal decision

Tehran, IRNA – The court of appeal of an Iranian national Hamid Nouri is scheduled to be held in Sweden on November 7. Hamid Nouri was found guilty of war crimes and murder by a Swedish court on October 24 and was sentenced to life imprisonment. The lawyers of Hamid Nouri have rejected the verdict calling for a court of appeal to be held. They have basically questioned the legal legitimacy of the Swedish court, saying the court has found itself legitimate to deal with the case without considering the conditions enshrined in Swedish Law and the limits imposed by international law. Both Swedish internal law and international law say the application of international legitimacy of internal courts is subject to conditions and limits. Swedish law provides that in order for a foreign national to be tried in Swedish courts under international legitimacy, he or she has to be present in the country voluntarily. The lawyers of Hamid Nouri believe that he has come to Sweden via deception and in spite of his own will. Mr. Nouri’s lawyers also argued that his arrest warrant had been issued before he was even in Sweden. They say it runs contrary to Swedish law. Noting that the Swedish government has to have an interest in execution of international legitimacy, the lawyers said that the Swedish court did not clarify any interest for the Swedish government in its initial ruling.
