Hardliners Seek To Create Tension In Iran-US Ties

Tehran, Sept 29, IRNA - Former Iranian Representative to the United Nations in Vienna Ali Khorram said on Saturday that extremist groups seek to create tension in relations between Iran and the US. Speaking to IRNA, he said President Rohani opened a new chapter in foreign diplomacy. President Rohami proved that Iran is determined to change its approach toward with the West. A new approach ranges from Iranian stand about the nuclear dispute with the western governments to rapprochement with Washington and Iranian friendly overture toward the neighboring states, he said. He said that any contact between the two sides proved impossible in the past but the telephone contact between Iran-US presidents indicated that there will be no major obstacle in the way of direct talks between Tehran and Washington. Problems could be better resolved in a friendly atmosphere, Khorram said adding that such measures should be taken many years ago to prevent escalation of tension. He said that there are many individuals or groups who are against improved relations between Iran and the US, because rapprochement will usher in a trend which will not serve their partisan interest. “We should not forget that some countries in the region along with extremist groups make their best to create tension in Iran–US relations to meet their interests,” he said. The two governments should take proper and timely actions to establish relations away from tension, he said./end
