High Turnout In Elections Prove Support For System - Larijani

Qom, June 15, IRNA – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said here Friday that high turnout in today elections is a symbol of support for the Islamic Republic system. Talking to reporters after casting his votes for 11th presidential and 4th City Council elections, Larijani said ˈelection and the public presenceˈ in this crucial event are two powerful pillars of the country. He called on the next president to help improve the current economic situation in the country. The next president should also back the Islamic Awakening movement, said Larijani. Referring to some international pressures on the country, he said foreign countries have eye on the presence of the Iranian nation in the ongoing elections. Active participation in election can help create a favorable atmosphere in the country at international arenas, said Larijani. Some 51 million Iranians are eligible to take part in the presidential election. The six candidates running in Iran’s presidential election are President of the Expediency Council’s Center for Strategic Research Hassan Rohani, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili, Expediency Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, former foreign minister Ali Akbar Velayati, and former telecommunications minister Mohammad Gharazi. Former Majlis speaker Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel and former first vice president Mohammad Reza Aref withdrew their candidacies earlier this week./end
