Hosting NAM Summit, Great Success For Iran: Police Chief

Tehran, Sept 2, IRNA – Hosting the newly-ended Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement by Tehran, despite all threats, was a great success for Iran, said Police Commander Ismael Ahmadi-Moqaddam here Sunday. Addressing a local gathering to hail police efforts for providing the summit's security, the official said war has different phases including political one and holding the 16th NAM Summit was an example of a political war as enemies of the country made great efforts to discourage the guests from attending the event. The 16th NAM Summit was held in Tehran from August 26-31. Referring to the negative propaganda by western media regarding hosting the summit by Tehran, the commander said, influenced by such propaganda, some of the guests of the summit had considered Tehran "as an unsafe and ruined city such as Kabul (Afghanistan) and Baghdad (Iraq) in five years ago." However, the commander stressed that the way Tehran held the summit could be used as an example for other countries. Meanwhile, Deputy Police Commander Ahmad-Reza Radan said that during the summit, some 113 weapons were confiscated countrywide. Speaking on the sidelines of the gathering, Radan told reporters that the security and traffic control operations conducted during the five-day event was one of the world's largest and most expanded security measures carried out by the Iranian police. "The operation was extended from the Iranian borders to the streets of its capital city, Tehran," he stressed./end
