House Commission III Postpones Meeting On KPK Leadership

Jakarta, Nov 27 (Antara) - The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III, on Thursday, postponed a plenary session to discuss a fit and proper test for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leadership after the Great Indonesia coalition`s lawmakers remained absent. "The plenary meeting of the House Commission III to discuss the phases of a fit and proper test for the KPK leadership was postponed after we had been waiting for 30 minutes for the factions of the Great Indonesia Coalition to arrive, but they did not show up," Benny K. Harman, the member of the House Commission III, stated. Benny, who is a member of the Democrat Party faction in the DPR, refused to divulge the reason behind the absence of the Great Indonesia coalition`s lawmakers in the meeting. The DPR should have selected the KPK leadership before entering recess on December 5, 2014. The Great Indonesia coalition comprises the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the National Awakening Party (PKB), the National Democrat (Nasdem) Party, and the People`s Conscience (Hanura) Party. "If they come this evening, we will await them. But if not, we will postpone the meeting until next week. In essence, the KPK leadership should have been chosen before December 5, 2014, when the DPR enters recess," he noted. He denied that the House Commission III will reject all candidates for the KPK leadership, which have been proposed by the KPK leadership selection committee. Under the law, the DPR must choose one candidate proposed by the committee for the post of KPK chief, he added.
