House Speaker Urges People To Accept Electrion Result

Jakarta, July 9 (Antara) - House Speaker Marzuki Alie appealed to people from all sections of society to accept the result of Wednesday`s presidential election and focus on developing the nation. "After the competition, we should accept its result, whatever it might be," the chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR) stated here on Wednesday. He was commenting on the implementation of the presidential and vice presidential election where the Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa pair and the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla (Jokowi-JK) duo were contesting on Wednesday. Marzuki Alie cast his vote at the polling station in Halim Perdana Kusumah, East Jakarta. He hoped that the presidential election will run peacefully. The house speaker emphasized that after the elections, all sections of the society should cooperate to ensure development in the interest of the nation. "People should not take each other as hostage," added Marzuki who will end his term as the house speaker next October. Indonesia organized a legislative election on April 9, and a presidential election on Wednesday, July 9, 2014. The people queued up at polling stations to vote for a new president for the 2014-2019 term of office. According to the General Elections Commission (KPU), a total of 190,307,134 eligible voters have been registered for the presidential election on July 9, 2014, with 486,866 polling stations set up across the archipelago. The total number of eligible voters included 2,038,711 overseas voters who cast their votes three to four days ahead of the nationwide polling day. The winning pair will be officially inaugurated as the country`s seventh president and vice president in October 2014.
