Hungary eyes to become Azerbaijan’s gateway to EU markets – envoy

Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan.24 By Leman Zeynalova – Trend: Hungary wants Azerbaijan consider it as a gateway to EU markets, ambassador of Hungary to Azerbaijan Viktor Szederkenyi said in an interview with Trend and Azernews. "We consider Azerbaijan as a gateway for us to eastern markets (as much as we want Azerbaijan consider Hungary as its gateway to the EU markets)," noted the envoy. Szederkenyi pointed out that for Hungary, every infrastructural project is important which connects Europe and Asia. "In this regard, we attach great importance to Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, since this railway line will shorten the transportation distance and time to Asia, and as we know, it provides a competitive tariff system," he added. The official opening ceremony of the BTK railway was held in Baku Oct. 30, 2017. The BTK railway was constructed on the basis a Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish intergovernmental agreement. The railway’s peak capacity will be 17 million tons of cargo per year.
