Vienna, Sept 10, IRNA – The quarterly meeting of the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will convene Monday while IR Iran’s Ambassador to IAEA, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, has been appointed as head of Vienna office of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). The week-long quarterly meeting of IAEA’s board of governors will begin at 10:00 a.m. Vienna local time on Monday with the opening speech of IAEA Director General Yukio Amano. It was three days ago that the Egyptian envoy to IAEA in Vienna, Khalid Abd-al-Rahman Shama handed over the presidency of Vienna branch of NAM to IR Iran’s Ambassador to IAEA Ali Asghar Soltanieh just adjacent to the headquarters of the board of governors of IAEA. NAM’s presidency was transferred from Egypt to IR Iran two weeks ago concurrent with the 16th NAM Summit in Tehran. NAM with more than 120 member-states in a statement issued last week in Tehran voiced its support for IR Iran’s peaceful nuclear energy activities. Parts of NAM’s statement reads, “All countries should be entitled to their inalienable right to development, research, production and making use from applications of nuclear energy in peaceful activities on the basis of legal commitments. Therefore, nothing should be interpreted in such a way as to ignore the rights of countries for development of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.” It added that the decisions and election of countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran in fuel cycle should be respected. The 43rd statement of ambassadors and representatives of member-states of NAM was approved in Vienna in support of Iran’s nuclear rights./end
