IAEA’s change of tone fine but not adequate, Iran says

TEHRAN,June 23(MNA) – The spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said the change of tone seen in the latest report issued by the international nuclear watchdog about Iran’s nuclear activities is “fine but inadequate.” Behrouz Kamalvandi made the remarks during an interview with Iranian Nasimonline news agency published on Sunday. A report issued by UN International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Friday showed that Iran has acted to eliminate virtually all of its most sensitive stockpile of enriched uranium gas under a landmark nuclear deal with six world powers last year. The monthly IAEA report, which has a key role in ensuring that Iran lives up to its part of the Nov. 24 agreement, showed that Iran was meeting its commitments to limit its atomic activities. The report said that since the half-year agreement took effect on Jan. 20, Iran had either diluted to a lower enrichment level or fed for conversion into oxide form more than 97 percent of its uranium gas stock refined to a fissile concentration of 20 percent. Commenting on the prospect of fresh demands from Iran by the IAEA, Kamalvnadi said if the agency makes demands which are “reasonable and under the legal framework of the commitments, we will review them and will cooperate.” He added, “Up to now, we have made efforts … to help the process meant to settle the issues.” “Our word with the agency was that it was necessary [for the IAEA] that they make demands which are reasonable and conventional. An interaction is formed with the agency and we hope that this interaction would continue with its current trend and bear good results,” he added.
