IAEA Reaffirms Iranˈs Peaceful Nuclear Program: Najafi

Berlin, Sept 6, IRNA -- The latest report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has once again reiterated the peaceful nature of Iranˈs nuclear program, Iranˈs Ambassador to the Agency in Vienna Reza Najafi said. The UN nuclear watchdog stressed that Iranˈs nuclear program has not been diverted for other purposes and Tehran has implemented all voluntary measures based on the November 24 agreement, he added. Najafi said the IAEA report highlighted once again Iranˈs transparent nuclear policies. On the issue of detonators, Najafi said his country provided documents and information that these detonators were used in Iranˈs oil and gas industry and the IAEA has in fact acknowledged that these detonators could also be used for industrial purposes. Najafi added as far as Iran is concerned, the matter of the detonators has been closed. He said on all other past issues, there have been five practical steps within the third stage of practical discussions between Iran and the Vienna-based UN nuclear agency. Iranˈs top diplomat added that his country had earlier told the IAEA that given the complex nature of the discussions, a full implementation of the five steps was not possible by August 25. Najafi pointed out the likelihood of discussing new issues once these issues have been settled./end
