IAEA report confirms Iran’s commitment to Geneva deal:Iranian official

TEHRAN,July 21(MNA) – The International Atomic Energy Agency report on Iran’s nuclear program, which was due on Sunday, was expected to confirm that Tehran has fulfilled its commitments under the Geneva accord, according to the Iranian ambassador to the IAEA. Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) struck an interim nuclear deal in Geneva last November, under which Tehran agreed to scale down some parts of its nuclear program for six months in exchange for limited sanctions relief. The Geneva deal came into force on January 20 and expired on Sunday. The agreement was meant to provide time and space for working out a comprehensive nuclear deal to resolve the dispute over Tehran’s nuclear program. Iran and the six major powers failed to meet the July 20 deadline to cut a final deal and announced early on Saturday that they had agreed to extend the talks for four more months. Ambassador Reza Najafi also said that Iran will receive the last tranche of its previously frozen overseas funds which were released under the Geneva accord. The interim agreement had enabled Iran to access $4.2 billion of its assets blocked in foreign accounts.
