Impossible To Ignore Iran, Says Daily

Tehran, Sept 27, IRNA - Today, destroying the ISIL and clearing misunderstandings on Iran’s nuclear energy program have become so crucial for Western states such that “now the West needs Iran”, wrote Saturday's edition of 'Iran Daily'. The crimes committed by ISIL terrorist group against Shias, Kurds, Sunnis and Western citizens in Iraq and Syria are one of the rare incidents in recent history that pose a threat to the common interests of Iran and the West, noted the English-language paper in its Opinion column. Given the current situation in the Middle East and the growing threat posed by the terrorist groups to Western states and their allies in the region, US President Barack Obama said in his UN address that “my message to Iran’s leaders and people is simple: Do not let this opportunity pass. We can reach a solution that meets your energy needs while assuring the world that your program is peaceful” and British Prime Minister David Cameron met Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting for the first time after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, noted the daily. The British newspaper ‘Daily Mail’ also said in an article that “times change, and now the West needs Iran, regarding it as a crucial potential ally in the fight against ISIL”. It said “there is no doubt that Iran wants to see the back of ISIL”, adding the Islamic Republic “considers Iraq and Syria as allies—both are also governed by Shia Muslims” and “Iran rightly believes them (ISIL terrorists) to be a dangerously destabilizing force in the Middle East”. This article shows that dialog and common interests can reduce tensions between rivals or foes and even help make them future friends, wrote the daily. The activities of Rouhani and his delegation in the UN indicated that the pursuing a dynamic diplomacy in engagement with other states is the top priority of the government. The win-win diplomacy is an honorable competition for attaining strategic objectives in the international arena, believes the daily. Undoubtedly, we can see the clear signs of this global dialog in nuclear talks and the interim deal reached between Iran and the P5+1 group of world powers during the past year. Iran and the West's will for getting closer and removing misunderstandings came to sight since Rouhani took office in August 2013. The Rouhani administration now draws international attention and the Iranian delegation is in intense talks with top officials of other states on the sidelines of the UN meeting, underscored the daily. Contrary to the performance of the former Iranian delegations, the new administration is trying to reduce tensions with the global community and find a way out of the pressure and sanctions imposed on the Iranian nation. While, Rouhani and his professional diplomatic team are using every opportunity in the talks to safeguard national interests, the government should analyze the measures taken by the West in response to Iran’s diplomatic moves, it concluded./end
