Independence Guarantees Dignity, Prosperity of Nation: Rodong Sinmun

Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun on Thursday says in an article that a country relying on foreign forces has to dance to the tune of others without its own view and faith and its people are reduced into slaves. The article goes on: Only when one moves forward along the road of independent development whatever others may say, can one defend the destiny of country and nation. If one yields to the imperialists' pressure with illusions and fear of them, one can never escape from domination and subjugation. When it maintains political independence, a nation can defend its already gained independence and sovereignty to the last and achieve the development and prosperity of its country. It is important for each country to shape the state line and policy in keeping with its actual conditions and its people's desire and demands and consistently implement them whatever others may say. Independence in politics is unthinkable apart from the economic independence. If one fails to lay the groundwork for the independent national economy, one cannot frustrate the imperialists' domination nor maintain political independence. To consistently realize self-reliance in national defense is the fundamental principle of building an independent and sovereign state. If one does not defend one's country by one's own efforts, the dignity and sovereignty of the nation will be trampled down by violent foreign forces.
