Indian Muslim Bodies Protest Against Atrocities By Egypt Army

New Delhi, Aug 24, IRNA – Nineteen Muslim organizations Friday protested against the atrocities committed by the Egyptian army on Morsi supporters in several Egyptian cities. Expressing anguish over the massacre and expressing solidarity with the victims, the organizations under the banner of Welfare Party of India (WPI) protested at the Egyptian Embassy. The protesters shouted slogans and carried placards urging restoration of democracy in the country. They also demanded reinstatement of ousted Mohamed Morsi. Addressing the protestors, several speakers expressed their anger against the suspension of the Constitution, deposing elected Morsi. They unanimously condemned the suppression of peaceful demonstrators and massacre of thousands of civilians. The speakers also expressed their deep anger and anguish over full silence of world community over the events in Egypt. They further noted that Egyptian Army under General Al Sisi has crossed all limits of brutality. Criticising the United Nations and democratic governments of the world, the speakers vehemently criticized the US and the West who do not want to flourish democracy in Muslim countries and try to dislodge elected governments in the Islamic World. Speakers also asked the Government of India to pass a strong-worded resolution in Parliament condemning the coup and the massacres in Egypt. Later-on a statement, expressing views about the unfolding grim situation in Egypt, was presented to the Ambassador of Egypt in India. It strongly condemned the use of excessive force against peaceful protesters in Egypt resulting in the killing and injuring of thousands of civilians. It demanded that violence to be stopped forthwith and those criminals who ordered this bloodshed to be identified and punished according to the law. It also demanded that Morsi be reinstated without any further delay, warning that crackdown on a popular political movement will plunge Egypt into a civil war./end
