Indian Muslims Protest Against Recent Carnage Of Shias In Pakistan

New Delhi, Feb 23, IRNA – Hundreds of Indian Muslims, mainly Shias Friday took to the streets in Central Delhi to protest against the recent carnage of Shia Muslims in the Pakistani city of Quetta. Under the banner of Majlis Ulema-e-Hind, the protestors, led by a group of Shia Ulemas, chanted slogans against the genocide in Quetta and the government of Pakistan. Carrying banners, condemning the killings of innocent Shias and demanding Pakistan’s government to take stern action against these acts of violence, the protestors also chanted slogans against the US and Israel. Earlier, the protestors were addressed by the prominent religious leaders, including Maulana Syed Jalal Haider Naqvi, President Shaheed Mottahari Society in Delhi, Maulana Syed Mohsin Taqvi, Friday Prayer Leader of Masjid Shiaan, Delhi, T A Rahmani, President Shia-Sunni United Front, human rights activists, media tycoons, scholars and political leaders. They in one voice said: “The heart-wrenching killings has created outrage and anxiety for all peace-loving communities supporting the philosophy of peaceful co-existence”. “During the last 10 years thousands of Shia Muslims have been killed in a planned manner,” noted the speakers. And the government of Pakistan is not doing enough to crack down on the attackers, they added criticizing the government. Extending deepest sympathies to those affected, the speakers urged the Pakistani government to work out a viable plan to initiate a comprehensive and rigorous operation against the sectarian groups and pro-Taliban and al-Qaeda terrorists. “The Pakistani government should apologize to Shia Muslims worldwide for failing to curb sectarian terrorism and merciless targeted killings,” a statement issued by the protesters said. It also appealed to the UN to exert pressure on Pakistani government to immediately stop the calculated Shias extermination taking place in Pakistan. Last week a devastating bomb attack targeting Shia Hazaras in Quetta city of southwestern Pakistan claimed 80 lives and left more than 200 injured. Shias make up around 15 percent of Pakistanˈs 190 million population.
