Indian Professor: Iran Cannot Allow US Doublespeak Continue

New Delh, Feb 26, IRNA - An Indian professor believes that Iran should not let the US doublespeak on Iran’s nuclear issue continue. In an exclusive interview with IRNA, Swaran Singh, Professor for Disarmament Studies, JNU, New Delhi, in response to a question on the strong position taken by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the direct talks with the US, said: It makes sense to establish what Iran’s strengths in this bargain are. Iran cannot allow the US doublespeak of imposing harsh sanctions in one hand and offering talks in the other continue. As for the issue of referring back the Iranian nuclear issue the UN by the IAEA, professor Singh said: ˈIAEA is the most respected technical agency to make a judgment on the status and direction of Iranˈs nuclear program. UN has become far too politicized to have similar respectability when it comes to this issue.ˈ On the possibility of any success in the forthcoming negotiations between Iran and the G5+1 in Kazakhstan, the prominent expert of disarmament said: ˈThe talks being held are itself a breakthrough. It is important to keep expectations low from this otherwise outcome of this round will look like a non-starter.ˈ “Given the distance that needs to be covered, these negotiations are going to be long drawn”, he added. Terming the anit-Iran sanctions as a futile exercise to force a county yield to pressure, Professor Singh said: ˈSanctions have normally not worked in ensuring compliance. In most cases, sanctions have only resulted in strengthening the resolve of the target state to either skirt these or find loopholes in the system or developed indigenous alternatives.ˈ “Often, institutions and companies of the state slapping sanctions have themselves facilitated target state in defying sanctions” he added./end
