Indian Senior advocate: US can’t reverse Iranian nuclear deal unilaterally

New Delhi Dec 12, IRNA - A senior advocate of India’s Supreme Court believes that the US president-elect Donald Trump cannot reverse Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with the world powers as it is an international deal and not a bilateral one. In an exclusive interview with IRNA here, Dr. Romesh Gautam said, 'The Iranian nuclear deal has been signed between Iran and the six world powers including the US. Since January, Iran has been doing its best to fulfill its commitments under the deal. Since the US is nothing but a party to the Iranian nuclear deal, the US under Trump cannot reveres or renegotiates the deal unilaterally, though Washington can just pull out of it. Advising the US out-going President Barak Obama not to sign into law the US Congress bill to extend the sanctions on Iran, the winner of the Indian president’s award for excellence and the Limca Record holder said, “Signing of the Iranian nuclear deal in 2015 was, in fact, the biggest diplomatic achievement of the US President Obama. By signing into law the US Congress bill to extend the sanctions on Iran, President Obama will not only undo his own historical achievement, but will also diminish the credibility of the US all over the world, as the sanctions in the past had not much effect on Iran.” “In case the US Congress bill to extend sanctions on Iran is converted into a law, Iran shall respond to the same with full force.” Dr. Romesh Guatam added. Predicting a total isolation of the US among its European and Asian allies if Trump tries to reverse or renegotiate the Iranian nuclear deal, the senior expert of the international law said,'All major powers of the world including the US allies in Europe are parties to the Iranian nuclear deal and most of them have intensified their economic and trade engagements with Tehran after removal of the international sanction on Iran. To safeguard their economic and trade interests in Iran’s fast growing market, none of the countries including China, Russia, India and many in Europe will follow the US under Trump to extend the sanctions on Iran.” 1378/IRNA
