Indonesians in Egypt Told To Remain Alert

Cairo, Dec 3 (ANTARA) - Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Nurfaizy Suwandi has asked Indonesian citizens in Egypt to remain alert in light of unstable political and security conditions in the country. "Indonesian citizens in Egypt should not approach or enter areas prone to demonstrations which may lead to clashes," Nurfaizy said in an interview with ANTARA in Cairo on Sunday. He asked Indonesian students to focus on their study. They should keep in contact with their friends, families and the Indonesian Embassy, he said. "If they have problems, please report to us immediately. They also should guard Indonesian students` neighborhood. Especially women, I urge them not to walk alone when they get out of their residence," he said. According to him, security conditions in Egypt are vulnerable to riot as the two conflicting camps continue to stage rallies in the Egyptian capital and several areas of the country. The two opposing camps consist of those who support a presidential decree and draft constitution and those who reject them. Members of the Freedom and Justice Party, Ikhwanul Muslimin faction, Al Nur Party as well as Salafi faction and pro-reform group held rallies in Cairo and some provinces such as Iskandariyah, Asiut and Ismailiah on Saturday. Some 5,000 Indonesians currently live in Egypt. When the security crisis happened in Egypt last year, many Indonesian citizens were repatriated. They came back to Egypt after the security conditions there returned to normal. Members of the liberal party have been occupying Tahrir Square in Cairo since last week. Egyptian President Mohamed Moursi hinted on Saturday a new constitution referendum will be held on December 15, 2012, which is rejected by the liberal party. Chairman of the Constituent Assembly Husam Al Ghariyani, on Saturday handed the final draft and the draft constitution to President Moursi.
